It is important to understand that only one side of the metal clip has to be released to remove the wiring harness from the injector.

  • The wiring harness is connected to each fuel injector with a metal clip as shown below.

Trying to remove and install the intake manifold mounting bolts with the fuel injector wiring harness installed can cause damage to the fuel injectors and should be avoided. The wiring harness prevents proper removal and installation of the intake manifold mounting bolts.

  • To prepare the intake manifold for removal, the fuel rail wiring harness needs to be removed.
  • Next, unplug the solenoid valve on the front of the engine.
  • Unplug the crankcase breather hose from the valve cover.
  • Use a small flat blade screwdriver to depress the valve (like letting air out of a tire) until all of the pressure is released from the rail.
  • Put several rags down around the valve to catch and fuel that may come out.
  • The Schrader valve is the same valve found in a car or bicycle tire. Start by locating the Schrader valve on the end of the fuel rail and remove its protective cap. This is a very simple procedure that does not require any special tools. This will save you from a mess when you disconnect the fuel lines from the intake manifold later on in this article.
  • Now is a great time to release the fuel rail pressure.
  • It is not necessary to remove the front fuel rail vacuum line unless you are planning on replacing it.it is connected to the PCV valve on the bottom of the intake manifold and does not hinder the removal process.
  • Disconnect the rear vacuum line from the top of the fuel rail.
  • Also remove the oxygen sensor mounting clips from the fuel rail.this will give you extra space for removing the wiring harness. Carefully stow them safely out of the work area.
  • Begin by unclipping the oxygen sensor wires from the top of the fuel rail as shown below.
  • Remove the engine cover from the vehicle.
  • Remove the two 10mm bolts securing the left engine cover to the fuel rail.
  • Remove the microfilter housing from the vehicle.

  • Before starting this repair you must disconnect the negative terminal from your battery.
  • ***The following steps were performed on a 2000 323i.other models may vary. The upper electrical connections, including the fuel injector wiring harness, must be cleared out of the way to make room manifold removal.
  • Includes 2.Section 1 - Removing the Upper Electrical Connections A BMW M52 intake manifold removal starts at the top of the engine.
  • Sealed with a pre-installed viton O-Ring.
  • Knurled and black anodized oil dipstick makes inspecting oil volume of reservoir clean and simple.
  • 6061-T6 billet machined body, anodized black for lasting protection and appearance.
  • Closed / recirculated design reduces oil ingestion and promotes cleaner emissions and odor-less operation.
  • Engineered to create multiple changes in the direction of airflow within the separator to cause oil droplets to fall out of suspension before exiting the catch can.

Strategically positioned 4 chamber baffle system maximizes oil / air separation. This catch can was also engineered for convenience featuring a dipstick to check the fill level and comes complete with a universal drain system. The Turner catch can features a 4 chamber, baffled design for the best efficiency when it comes to the separation process and engineered to create multiple changes in the direction of airflow within the separator to cause oil droplets to fall out of suspension before exiting the catch can. The catch can assists in separating whats better to circulate to burn from what is more harmful to your engine. Though it is better for the environment its typically not much better for you engine since the burnt oil will slowly become carbon build up & sludge through vacuum hoses, PCV system, and valves. This recycling process is used mostly for emission purpose to keep these harmful vapors out of the atmosphere. The benefit of having a catch can on your vehicle has to do with how much oil vapor is being recirculated back into the engines intake system to be burned.
